Riding the route of the Kernow Horse Trail from Devon to Lands End in aid of charity

Four horse-riders, Andrea Simmons, Bev Jenkins, Lizzie Matthews and Peta-Jane Field, from West Penwith, the wild and rugged tip of Cornwall, have trailblazed the route of the Kernow Horse Trail, which runs from Devon to Lands End, in aid of charity. They arrived at Lands End in style at 5:45pm on Friday 18 June.

The Idea

Just after the Haitii disaster, Andrea, Bev, Peta-Jane and Lizzie were out on a gentle hack and chatting about all the really poor places in the world where no-one
rides for pleasure and where life - for horses and donkey as well as people - can be very tough.

"Hey!" said Lizzie, "Let's ride from John O'Groats to Land's End to raise money to help them!" "Whoa!" we said (and our horses snorted a bit) "What about trying closer to home first!" "I know," said Bev, who knows about these things. "Why don't we ride the Kernow Trail - it runs from the Devon Border to Land's End - and no-one has ridden it yet as it's only just opened!" "Good one," we cried (and our horses snorted in agreement). We are leaving Horsebridge on Sunday 13 June, and arrive six days later at Land's End on Friday 18 June 2010. We would welcome fellow horse-riders to join us on any sections of the route, if we are passing by your local area.

The Kernow Horse Trail is part of the BHS Ride-UK Initiative in Cornwall. Although much of the trail route exists and is ridden, some sections are still at the planning stage and awaiting funding. Our ride is pioneering the route and making some detours to by pass the incomplete sections.
